Quarkle works with the files you already have. Bring an existing draft in, and export a copy whenever you’re ready.

Import a draft

Open Import

In the editor’s left panel, click Import and choose a file.

Pick your files

Quarkle imports PDF, Markdown (.md), and plain-text (.txt) files. You can select several at once, and each is brought in as chapters.

Give it a moment

Large or complex files may take a moment to bring in.

Export your manuscript

Click Export in the left panel (or open Settings → Export) to open the Export Document dialog.

Choose a format

Pick PDF, Word (.docx), Markdown, or Plain Text.

Set the options for text formats

For Markdown and Plain Text, you can toggle chapter numbers, chapter titles, and skipping empty chapters.

Design a book for PDF or Word

PDF and Word open a full template designer. Pick a design template: Classic Book, Modern Editorial, Literary, or Submission Manuscript. Then customise:
  • The title page: author, subtitle, publisher, edition, and copyright
  • Page size: US Letter, A4, Trade 6×9, Digest 5.5×8.5, or Custom
  • Body font and size, and line spacing
  • Running headers and page numbers
  • Chapter heading styles
Advanced users can save their own custom templates, and import or export a template as JSON to reuse it later.
