Ghostwriter continues your open chapter without going through Chat. Press the pink quill and Quarkle writes forward from the final line.

Overview

The quill sits at the bottom-right of the manuscript. Press it to continue naturally, or add a direction first.

Steer the next passage, then press the pink quill to continue the chapter.

1

Open a chapter

Ghostwriter writes at the end of the chapter that is open.
2

Steer it, or just press the quill

Add a short direction in steer the next passage, or leave it empty. Press the pink quill to begin.

Steer the next passage

A short direction is enough. Tell Ghostwriter the next event, a time jump, or the tone you want.
  • Introduce Mira at the door.
  • Skip to the next morning.
  • No dialogue. Stay with the storm.
  • Follow the beats in my scene document.
Give it the next beat, not a full prompt. Ghostwriter already reads the chapter ending and relevant Story Atlas notes for voice, characters, and canon.

Watch it write

New prose streams directly onto the page. It appears in pink in Paper mode and blue in Midnight mode, so you can always see what Quarkle just added.
Pink Ghostwriter prose streaming after the original chapter text with a live writing word count and stop button

Ghostwriter continues at the chapter's final line. The status shows a live word count and a stop control.

Press Stop at any time. Everything already on the page stays there. Edit the new prose as you normally would. To remove its temporary tint immediately, select it and choose Clear formatting. The tint also disappears when you reopen the editor.
Ghostwriter writes directly into the manuscript. Use Undo or version history if you want to go back.

Choose a length and model

Open the gear beside the steering field to tune the run.
Ghostwriter settings showing short, medium, and long length choices with an Auto model picker

Ghostwriter settings for length and model.

  • Short (S): one tight paragraph, about 100 words.
  • Medium (M): a few paragraphs, about 250 to 400 words. This is the default.
  • Long (L): a full stretch of about 500 to 800 words.
  • Model: leave it on Auto, or choose a model on Pro.
For a planned scene, work out the beats in Chat, save them to the Story Atlas, then steer Ghostwriter with Follow the beats in my scene document.
If a chapter already feels finished, Ghostwriter opens the next beat instead of repeating the ending.

On mobile

The same controls live in the writing bar at the bottom of the screen. Tap steer… to add a direction, then tap the quill.

On mobile, steering and the quill stay in the bottom writing bar.

Use Ghostwriter when it is time for prose. Use Chat when you want to explore or plan before anything reaches the page.

Next: Writing & formatting

Format the prose and make the page yours.
