# Exporting Your Novel and Sharing It for Feedback

> Export your manuscript to PDF, Word, or Markdown, or share a private reading link with beta readers, without losing control of your draft.

At some point a manuscript needs to leave Quarkle, either as a file you take somewhere else, or as something other people can read. This guide covers both, and how to pick between them.

## Export a copy

Click **Export** in the left panel to open the Export Document dialog.

</Frame>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose a format">
    **PDF**, **Word (.docx)**, **Markdown**, or **Plain Text**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="For Markdown or Plain Text">
    Toggle chapter numbers, chapter titles, and whether to skip empty chapters.
  </Step>

  <Step title="For PDF or Word">
    Pick a design template (**Classic Book**, **Modern Editorial**, **Literary**, or **Submission Manuscript**), then customize the title page, page size, body font, running headers, and chapter heading style.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Save your own template once you've dialed in a look you like, and reuse it on your next manuscript instead of reconfiguring from scratch. Full reference: [Import & export](/getting-started/import-and-export).
</Tip>

**Use this when:** you need a file. Submitting to an agent, uploading to a publishing platform, printing a copy, or just wanting a portable backup outside Quarkle.

## Share for feedback

Open **Share** in the left rail. This doesn't hand over a file, it gives people access to read inside Quarkle, without giving up control of the words.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Invite specific people">
    Enter an email. They join as a **collaborator**: read-only access to your manuscript.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Or publish a public link">
    Under **Visibility settings**, turn on a public reading link. Anyone with it can read; turn it off any time to go private again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Use this when:** you want beta readers, an editor, or a writing group to read your actual, current draft, without exporting a file that goes stale the moment you make another change. Full reference: [Sharing & collaboration](/editor/sharing).
