# Create & open a manuscript

> Start a fresh draft, open an existing one, and understand shared manuscripts.

Starting a new manuscript takes a single click. There's nothing to save by hand. Your work is always kept for you.

## Start a new manuscript

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Studio">
    Sign in and you'll land in [the Studio](/getting-started/the-studio).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click new manuscript">
    The **new manuscript** button opens a fresh, blank manuscript straight in the [Editor](/editor/overview).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Give it a title">
    Click the **title** field in the editor's top bar (it starts as "Untitled") and name your book.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Just write">
    Your work **autosaves** as you go. There's no save button to remember.
  </Step>

## Open an existing manuscript

Back in the Studio, click any manuscript **card** to open it in the Editor exactly where you left off.

## Delete a manuscript

To remove a manuscript, open its **"…"** menu on the card in the Studio and choose **delete manuscript**.

  Deletion asks for confirmation and cannot be undone.

## Shared manuscripts

Manuscripts that other people share with you show up in your Library too. These are **read-only**. You can read them but not edit them. Learn more in [sharing & collaboration](/editor/sharing).
