# Custom reviewers

> Build your own AI editor with its own instructions, tier, and examples, and reuse it across manuscripts.

Every writer wants something different from an edit. Alongside Quarkle's built-in [reviewers](/ai/review-room), **Pro** users can build **custom reviewers**: your own AI editors, with instructions and examples you define. You can reuse them across manuscripts.

## Create a reviewer

In the **Review** tab, click the **+** (new reviewer). You can start from a blank reviewer or from a template.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start from a template (optional)">
    Pick a starting point like **Hemingway**, **Plain Style**, **Openings**, **Humor**, **Worldbuilding**, **Romance**, **Clues**, or **House Style**. Or choose **Start blank**.

  <Step title="Name it and pick a tier">
    Give the reviewer a **name** and a **tier**: **Copy** (grammar, spelling, punctuation), **Line** (rhythm, clarity, word choice), **Developmental** (structure, character, stakes), or **Continuity** (details against the rest of the book). The tier decides where it appears in the panel.

  <Step title="Write the instructions">
    In **Description** (one line) and **Instructions**, describe exactly how this editor should read and rewrite. Be specific. The more precise the instructions, the more useful the comments.

  <Step title="Add examples">
    Add a few **input to rewrite** examples. The reviewer learns your preferred style from these, so a couple of good examples goes a long way.

  <Step title="Create the reviewer">
    Save it. Your custom reviewer now appears in the Review Room and runs alongside the others when you run a review.

<Tip>
  Be as detailed and specific as you can in the instructions and examples. That's what turns a generic note into feedback that sounds like *your* editor. Custom reviewers are saved to your account, so you can reuse them across every manuscript.

## Editing and turning reviewers off

Custom reviewers sit in their tier's row alongside the built-in ones, marked with a **custom** badge. Hover a row to edit or delete it, and toggle it on or off like any other reviewer.
