# Our mission

> Making fiction frictionless. An editor-grade critique partner in every author's hands.

Quarkle exists to make **fiction frictionless**. We're a small team of developers who love to read and, every so often, write. We built the tool we wished authors had.

## The long road authors have walked

For most of history, writing was a hard way to make a living. Very few authors ever earned one, and the ones who did rarely held the reins. Publishers controlled the editing, the printing, and the distribution. If you were an author, you handed your manuscript over and hoped, with little transparency into how it fared or why.

The internet changed the shape of that story. Self-publishing, and platforms like Kindle Direct Publishing, put **distribution** directly into authors' hands. For the first time, a writer could reach readers without a gatekeeper's blessing, and finally see their own sales.

## The last missing piece

Distribution is solved. Visibility is solved. What's still gatekept is the thing that turns a draft into a book: **great editing**. Historically it has been expensive, scarce, and reserved for the already-chosen few.

That's Quarkle's bet. We want to put an editor-grade **critique partner** in every author's hands. One that's **author-centric**, patient, and always available. So anyone with a story worth telling can bring it to a finishable state, on their own terms.

## Our philosophy

Quarkle is deliberately built to **minimise AI writing and maximise AI critique**. We don't want to write your book for you. We want to help you write a better one. The reader should meet *your* voice on the page, not ours.

We're here to empower the storyteller, never to replace them. That's the whole point.
